Emergency services

You should always call 999 or go to A&E (Accident & Emergency) in an emergency. You can find more helpful advice and information on what to do in an emergency below.

When to go to A&E

You should always go to A&E for serious injuries and life-threatening emergencies. These can include:

  • Loss of consciousness
  • Fits that aren’t stopping
  • Chest pain
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Severe bleeding
  • Severe allergic reactions
  • Severe burns or scalds.
Emergency prescriptions

You can get an emergency supply of a repeat prescription from 111 online (NHS website).

When to call NHS 111

You can call 111 or get help from 111 online (NHS website) if you're not sure what to do and if you think you need medical help right now. You can also call 111 if our surgery is closed (out-of-hours).

You will be directed to the best place to get help, depending on your medical issue.

111 can't issue fit notes or book, change or cancel an appointment. You can do these online on our website.

Outside surgery opening hours

If you need to speak to a doctor or nurse outside of surgery opening hours, then NHS 111 can help. NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can also do a lot of important things like booking an appointment, getting test results or finding more health and care information on our website.

Minor injuries and walk-in centres

These services can help with some of the same problems as urgent treatment centres, but they do not all have the same facilities.

If they cannot help with a particular problem, they will direct you to where you can get the right help.

People sustaining injuries as a result of accidents should ring in for advice. They may be referred to the Minor Injuries Unit at Southmead Hospital or Yate Westgate Centre for assessment and treatment. Please do not to turn up at the surgery without an appointment.

Book an appointment

If you need to book an appointment to see a GP or nurse for a non-urgent medical issue, then you can book an appointment using our online system.
